Logo Design - Gold Coast Airport Marathon (Part 1)

This is a class project I had to do for Open Colleges Australia, which meant I had to redesign a new logo for the event titled Gold Coast Airport Marathon.  It seemed simple enough - a combination of text and images to portray an athletic event held in the City of the Gold Coast, situated in South-East Queensland.  Like many graphic design projects, it begins with the usual mood boards, mind maps and thumbnails.  Below are my mood boards and mind map - apparently, these give me an idea as to what I could/should do for my projects.
