I always loved radio - particularly specialist/special interest programs, and those featuring certain kinds of music. Back in 2001, I did a Radio Training Course with 2rrr (88.5 FM) and long back in the days before the Internet was a thing. I never was given any airtime, but that didn't stop me from tuning in to a few of my favourite programs on 2rrr, 2rdj, Triple J, Triple M, 2ser and so forth.
So, earlier this year, I attended two workshops at Ultimo TAFE (next door to the UTS and across from the ABC). One was on starting your own online radio station, the other was on making your own radio ad. The above video shows me walking around the College Campus, showing my viewers what it is like at the college, and for anyone wanting to study Screen and Media at TAFE (and especially Journalism at Ultimo).
Then they held an information session in February, and I enrolled in the Certificate IV in Screen and Media, specializing in Radio and Journalism. This included the new 'growth areas' of Social Media and Podcasting.
As both a Graphic Design graduate from TAFE (who's also done Screen and Media before), and as someone who has studied the Social Sciences (Psychology, Sociology, Politics, Marketing and Philosophy) at University, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to blend these fields together.
And another fun fact about me is that I studied at Ultimo TAFE before - Welfare Work in 1987 and Business Administration in 1988. So the video was definitely a trip back into memory lane for me.
Oh yes, there's a cat cushion in one of the studios!!!
Why it's called Caturday.
And the next two weekends, I have things on, including a Radiators gig at Caringbah, and some more TAFE workshops - some in podcasting, and some in making videos on my phone. So, yeah, I will be a very busy girl, moving forward.
cheers,
Colleen
