Why is Modern Art so Bad?

This is a video by PragerU (commentary by Robert Florczak) on what can go wrong with modern art, and how it has become 'degraded' over time.

Think about it - the great artists of days gone by have put alot of time and effort into their works (paintings, sculpture and architecture), and even though they are still revered, they have kind of had to take a back seat to works even a child can do (for want of a better term).

Yes, I can do something and call it 'artistic expression'; but will it earn me a big money? I doubt it - but there are some 'artists' who do just that, and earn 'big money' while not really putting in the thought and effort into their work.

Or alternatively, they rely on 'shock value' to gain attention - even to the point where one can feel 'sick to the stomach' upon viewing the work. One must ask how this is acceptable in a museum which is supposed to 'sanctify' and glorify good art.

Not to mention the disappointment and frustration felt by those artists who do put in the work and effort but don't rely on 'shock value' to promote their works.

And that makes me sad.

Anyway, watch the video, then go to a museum or gallery where one can enjoy and appreciate both good and not-so-good art. I personally believe there is nothing wrong with modern art, however, try to be discerning and understand that most people (even most people I know personally) will appreciate traditional over modern art, and why so many people pay attention to art forms that don't really warrant alot of attention.

cheers,
Colleen
