Find the networks
Now here’s a fun exercise
to help you get out there and start networking!
- Find at least five websites where you can interact with others and keep up to date with the latest digital technologies. These can be any kind of websites, and they can include a blog, a webinar that you can subscribe to, or even a simple Facebook page.
- Write down the five URLs of these websites, and for each URL write down the name of the group and the subject that they are discussing. For example, are they currently sharing their latest reviews on the application software ‘Macaw’?
Answer
Blogs
In addition to https://www.smashingmagazine.com/,
another design magazine I have come across (in one of the previous study
periods for this course) is HOW Design Magazine: http://www.howdesign.com/, and it has all
sorts of tips for keeping up to date with the latest technologies.
Online video tutorials
- YouTube is one video upload site where I can subscribe to and keep up to date on any technology tips on whatever I am interested in. It other categories but it is the main ‘go to’ site for video tutorials. You can go to https://www.youtube.com/ for more information.
- Another one for video tutorials is Adobe TV (the official video site for tutorials on using their software): http://tv.adobe.com/. Because Adobe Creative Suite and Creative Cloud are ‘industry standard’ (i.e. I need to use them), I know I can keep up to date with the latest software).
- Also, I use Lynda.com now, as I am a member of LinkedIn (a social networking site for job seeking and other business-style networking activities. For a monthly fee, there are limitless courses to choose from.
Social Networking Sites:
- LinkedIn: I can look out for different jobs, make connections with other people, and watch presentations on Slide Share (which is now part of LinkedIn).
- Facebook: Like most people, I am a member of this site as well.
