2D and 3D applications - Progress Challenge 05

30534a - Progress Challenge 5
By Colleen Sedgwick

Project implementation

This progress challenge requires you to share your project implementation process by providing visual and written evidence comprised of the following:
1. A brief description of at least five examples of work safety and copyright practices you observed during the implementation of your project.
2. Two clear snapshots or scans of your 2-D based (print) design, one showing the design before any feedback and critique from peers or online communities and another showing it after.
3. A brief report explaining how you were able to use feedback and critique in implementing your 2D based design.
4. Two clear snapshots or scans of your 3D based (print) design, one showing the design before any feedback and critique from peers or online communities and another showing it afterwards.
5. A brief report explaining how you were able to use feedback and critique in implementing your 3D based design.

Answer

Part 1

Examples of OH&S practices I used include taking regular breaks or pauses; setting up my workstation correctly; and sitting correctly at my work station[1].
Examples of copyright practices include acknowledging other’s work, and using correct referencing[2].

I added this one, not necessarily because the stationery design was bad, but because I thought it would be a good idea to add a paper bag.

Part 3

Using feedback

I received feedback from a classmate, which affirmed my perception that the logo design, used on my 2D mock-ups for the stationery, was suitable.  Here is what this classmate had to say[3]:

Hi Colleen,

Thanks for the feedback.

Your design looks good, using the tube of paint is a good idea as it reflects the name of the business and what’s it’s about. I love the three indoor and the bottom outdoor logo designs….
So I used the same format for my paper bag design.

Part 5

The same classmate suggested I change the layout of my door sign so that it wouldn’t look so ‘small’:

However, I would change the top outdoor oval shaped sign design and replace it with the indoor logo design, because the signage is ‘roundish’ and having everything going across in a straight line makes the logo design and the words look smaller and hard to notice. If you use the indoor logo layout in the oval sign, it will not only fill up the white space in the sign but also make the business name bigger, and customers would be able to see the sign better.

Overall I think that the design is fantastic!

After changing the design, I received some very positive feedback on both my paper bag and signage mock-ups:

Hi Colleen,

Wow!  Your signage and bag mock-up really looks professional and amazing.  Well done! smile
Lakeia
This feedback on both my 2D and 3D mock-ups (both ‘before’ and ‘after’) affirmed my perception that the design format with the image above the text worked best for most outputs; and that that it worked better for the oval shaped outdoor sign than did the text beside the image.
