30534a - Progress challenge 2

Feedback and collaboration

This progress challenge requires you to collaborate and get feedback from other professionals, facilities, peers, and design communities that would allow you to address the technical and creative specifications of your 2-D and 3-D based designs. You need to complete the following:
*       2.1. A list of companies, professionals, printing and fabrication companies and peers that you need to collaborate with for your project. Explain why you would need their help and collaboration in order for your project to be fully realized.
*       2.2. Two clear screenshots of at least two separate posts in an online design community you signed up with to get feedback on your 2-D and 3-D designs.
TIP: Navigate to the student forum to engage in the discussion with your peers

Answer

These would include the following companies (that manufacture 2D and 3D designs):

For 3D:

*       Skope Group[1]: this company is a building company using pylon, monolith and acrylic signage – most of which is for outdoor installations, though they state on their website they can also do indoor, as well as outdoor, cladding[2].
*       They can also do printing[3] and design[4];
*       City Wide Signs and Neon[5]: this company appears to specialise in corporate signage, and is probably more suitable for office and commercial installations[6].   What Sedgie Art would need includes: digital printing[7] and reception signage[8].
*       Price Screen and Digital[9]: for general signage[10].
*       Rotoflex Coatings[11]: specialises in laminating.

Design communities – these include:

*       Australian Graphic Design Association[12];
*       International Council of Design[13];
*       Design Institute of Australia[14];
As well, there is Open Colleges[15], where I can communicate with my classmates; Facebook[16] (which also has a discussion group for the same class) and Behance[17].

Pictured on the next three pages are images for 3D (outdoor and indoor) installations and 2D outputs.

Hi Colleen,

Thanks for the feedback.

Your design looks good, using the tube of paint is a good idea as it reflects the name of the business and what’s it’s about. I love the three indoor and the bottom outdoor logo designs.
However, I would change the top outdoor oval shaped sign design and replace it with the indoor logo design, because the signage is ‘roundish’ and having everything going across in a straight line makes the logo design and the words look smaller and hard to notice. If you use the indoor logo layout in the oval sign, it will not only fill up the white space in the sign but also make the business name bigger, and customers would be able to see the sign better.

Overall I think that the design is fantastic!

Thanks Lakeia,
I thought maybe the oval outdoor sign would be suitable for an old building with 'classic' architecture like you find in inner-city Sydney (or Melbourne) for instance, either the CBD or Inner West.  But I can see how the text can look a bit too small.
Cheers,
Colleen

Wow!  Your signage and bag mock-up really looks professional and amazing.  Well done! smile

Thank you Lakeia, I'm slowly getting the hang of this Photoshop thing smile
If I do open up a studio/office, I intend to open up a gift shop alongside it, hence, the paper shopping bag smile
Cheers,
Colleen
