Part A:
Good effort formalising the brief Colleen, however, the target could be more refined. While you have defined who your ideal client is, for example, the purpose of formalising the brief is to outline the requirements of the project. For example, you have mentioned two types of 3D outdoor signage as well as indoor signage in your brief but it is not clear which is required, one, both or all three? You have provided generic print technical specifications but I would expect more specific specs for large format signage for example a sign several metres wide may be supplied at a reduced scale.
Part B:
Good list of collaborators and suppliers to help you produce this project Colleen.
Part C:
You have put in considerable effort to your mockups, well done Colleen. Practice will further enhance your skills and knowledge of the various software packages. Would like to see more detail in the technical information. For example, what materials do the manufacturers use, what print methods do they use what are the dimensions of each finished product, what colour types are used, ink
types, how do you supply the files to the manufacturer eg PDF, EPS, die lines, spot colours, digital print, screen print etc.
Part D:
Well done using an online tool to create a task list and checklist. Adding as much detail as possible into the task lists, schedules and budgets for example, research, concepts, revisions, mock ups, approval and output etc, will assist in creating an 'big picture' of the project and help to ensure roles, responsibilities and requirements are adhered to and met. Colleen, relating your report to your project
more specifically would have added further value to the submission rather than general comments about the value of project management. For example, how did the task list assist in this specific project?
Part E:
You have listed good sustainability and copyright practices relevant to the project Colleen. You could include safety of sign installation which requires heavy lifting, use of dangerous tools and manual labour to install and so on. You may also want to consider font licensing, inks, stock and printing processes used in production and how sustainable or not these processes are for future
submissions. Well done getting feedback on your designs. Your respondents have made some valid points which you have applied to the designs accordingly.
Part F – Proofing
Colleen you have sourced some good information about file formats, document sizes, bleed and trims. More detail related specifically to your project is what is required here. For example, how did you send your files to Kwik Kopy? Was it a high resolution PDF, to scale or actual size, how many colours? How did you check all of this was as it should reproduce?
Some tips for proofing work are:
- always print a full colour version to proof check before sending to printers/sign maker
- do a ‘soft proof’ of your InDesign files before sending away by doing a Preflight and check separations in the Separations panel
